Surud United

Porter United

Porter United are a team made up predominantly of Somali players, who began as a junior team, Surud United, managed by Football Unites coach Mursal Ahmed. After spending season 2003-4 in the Sheffield and District Under-18 Sunday League, Surud joined the Regional Alliance adult league in 2004.

After a promising start, administrative problems off the pitch contributed to ill discipline on the pitch, and the team finished bottom of the league. Following a series of meetings with Football Unites staff during the summer of 2005, a new club committee was elected, and a decision made to change the team name to Porter United and to apply to join the Look Local Newspaper Hallamshire Sunday League for season 2005-6.

In January 2006, after 12 games, Porter United stood proudly at the top of Division One.
