FURD girls and refugees in display of unity at Bramall Lane

Following the appalling terrorist attacks in Paris on the night of Friday 13th November, it was particularly poignant that FURD was involved with Sheffield United's Match of Action in support of the Kick It Out campaign against racism and discrimination on Saturday 14th.

Girls and women from FURD's female football initiative, along with members of our Belonging group for refugees and asylum-seekers were guests of Sheffield United at their 2-2 draw against Southend.

The girls had the honour of carrying a Kick It Out flag around the pitch before the match. They then held up the flag, a statement of unity and anti-discrimination, on the pitch to greet the teams coming out of the tunnel and during the one-minute silence that was observed at all matches over the weekend.

At half time the girls took part in a penalty shoot-out on the pitch with some great goals being scored! Everyone really enjoyed the experience, despite the pouring rain.

One adult member of the group said, "It was great to see so many kids from the community at the game - they were so happy!"
