FURD Football Film Festival and Contributions of Muslims exhibitions

October marks Black History Month and, from 18th-29th October, 'One Game, One Community' Weeks of Action against discrimination in football.

During this period, FURD is hosting its first Football Film Festival. There will be three screenings, all free of charge. For full details, click on the images to enlarge them, but here's a summary: 

Friday 19th October, 7pm, U-Mix Centre, Asline Road, Sheffield S2 4UJ: Zanzibar Soccer Queens, followed by a question and answer session with the film's director, Florence Ayisi.

Thursday 25th October, 6pm, Showroom Cinema, Paternoster Row, Sheffield S1 2BX: Africa United, followed by free food and discussions with guest speakers.

Sunday 28th October, 6pm, The Void Film Theatre, Level 1 Owen Building, Howard Street, Sheffield S1 1WB: The Arthur Wharton Story. This is the premiere of a FURD-commissioned film about the riches to rags story of the world's first black professional footballer, and the evening will also include other entertainment provided by peopl involved in FURD's Arthur Wharton Heritage Project.

Alongside the film festival, FURD is hosting two exhibitions at the U-Mix Centre highlighting positive contributions made by Muslims throughout history to the world of science and Britain during the conflicts of world war one and two.

1001 Muslim Inventions and World War 1 and 2 Muslim Victoria Cross holders. There will be an open afternoon on Friday 19th October from 3pm with speakers, so people can view the exhibitions and then watch 'Zanzibar Soccer Queens' afterwards. Food will be provided.
