All Nations football festival rescheduled for this weekend

The All Nations Football Festival, originally scheduled for 23rd-24th June but postponed, will now take place this weekend, 1st and 2nd September.

FURD, in partnership with the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA, is staging the festival at the Goodwin Sports Centre, Northumberland Road, Sheffield. The event includes a football tournament for refugees, asylum-seekers and other recent immigrants alongside a family fun day.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the All Nations tournament which aims to use football to help newcomers to the city to integrate and engage with their new community and to find a sense of belonging. It offers support, ideas and guidance on how newcomers and existing refugees can further their involvement in football. To celebrate the anniversary, local teams will be joined by teams from further afield.

The weekend kicks off with team registration at 9am on Saturday. Following this is the Sheffield All Nations Question & Answer conference from 10am to noon, when representatives from the Football Association, refugee organisations, Sheffield City Council and other groups will be on hand to answer questions about football development. The tournament will follow this, starting at 1pm.

On Sunday, the tournament will continue between 12.00 and 4pm alongside family activities such as Streetkick, penalty shoot-outs, face painting, a bouncy castle, balloon making and a henna artist. Food and drink will also be available.

Everyone is welcome to come along, meet your neighbours and see what you can learn.
