Future Jobs Fund vacancy with FURD

FURD has a vacancy for a temporary Research Assistant, funded for 6 months under the Future Jobs Fund.  The post will be based at the FURD office, The Stables, Sharrow Lane, Sheffield.  Post responsibilities include support duties for the Research Project ‘Football – A Shared Sense of Belonging?’ and within the FURD Resources and Information Centre. FURD positively encourage applications from individuals with experience of being an asylum seeker/refugee.

 Specific Duties:
• Regular liaison with research participants to encourage involvement in the project.
• Providing support in the recruitment and management of research volunteers.
• Assisting with the organisation and management of promotional events.
• Helping to maintain the project website
• Exploring creative ways of presenting research findings (e.g. blogs, vlogs, exhibitions, film).
• Help with research processes (such as interviews, informal discussions, field observations).
• Maintain filing system of research ‘data’ with due regard for security and confidentiality of records.
• Administrative support for project meetings.
• To act in a manner that is in keeping with the values of Football Unites, Racism Divides.
• To undertake any other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post and contribute as required to the wider work of the organisation.
The post is for six months and the closing date is Wednesday 6th October.

Requirements:  Applicants need to have been on Jobseekers Allowance for 6 months, though there may be some flexibility on this. In addition they need to have: 
• Ability to think creatively.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to understand issues facing refugees and asylum seekers.
• Ability to engage with individuals from various cultural backgrounds
• Excellent planning and organisation skills.
• Experience of using Microsoft IT packages (e.g. Word, Outlook).
• Ability to work with young people.
• Understanding of confidentiality.
• Understanding of equal opportunities and diversity.
• Confidence to communicate with a range of diverse people.
• Able to follow instructions and work on own initiative.
• Able to work as part of a team.
• Attention to detail.
• Post-16 Education (arts/humanities/sociology)
• Additional language skills (either French, Arabic or Swahili)

The post holder will have access to confidential information and is expected to ensure that the highest level of confidentiality is maintained at all times. A Criminal Records Bureau disclosure may be required.

Hours:  The post is for 25 hours a week
Pay:  £6 per hour
