FURD fundraisers out in force

Moony survives the murky waters

On the 26th of September FURD's Moony Wainwright competed in the British Gas 'Great Salford Swim', a one mile race in the murky waters of Salford Quays, the old docks for the Manchester Ship Canal. He finished with a time of 29 minutes and 13 seconds which earned him 230th place out of a field of over 2000 competitors and the 29th male in his age class.
Moony says, "it was a great experience, I had fantastic support from my family and friends who cheered me all the way round, and the thought of the many people who sponsored me spurred me on when the going got tough."
Moony is raising money for 'Star Studios', a new community music space in Sheffield where FURD's 'Sound Kickers' music project is based. He has raised over 300 to date and his just-giving page is still open for donations. You can also see brief highlights of his day on YouTube -see the links below.

Young people raise money for Pakistan flood victims

In another fundraising event, on 20th September a group of young people involved with FURD, along with FURD's education worker Lisa Sultanti, took part in a sponsored walk across Sheffield from Firth Park to Sharrow to raise money for the Pakistani flood relief appeal. Lisa, Hamada, Majid Khan, Zanumb Bibi and Saudat Adinani received a Teamwork Award from the charity Islamic Relief UK for their work.
