Anti Racism Week of Action

The Kick It Out 'One Game, One Community' weeks of action are now in in full swing, running from 15th - 27th October. The Action Week began as an initiative by the then 'Let's Kick Racism out of Football' campaign 15 years ago, and was joined in the 2001-2 season by the Football Against Racism in Europe network with initiatives in nine countries. The action weeks are now supported by UEFA, and features some 1,000 activities by campaigners, fans, clubs, national associations, ethnic minority groups and youth groups in 40 different countries across Europe. Football Unites is involved in the following Action Weeks activities:

Saturday 24th October:

Kyle Walker, Local Hero: 40 FURD helpers and members of Woodseats Boxing Club will distribute 4,000 copies of a specially-produced 4-page tribute to local young player and England Under-19 international, Kyle Walker, along with anti-racist posters and stickers, before the Sheffield United v Cardiff Championship game. Kyle was the first player to be recommended by FURD coaches to Sheffield United, over a decade ago.

Monday 26th October:

Remember Ahmed tournament: The friends and team-mates of Ahmed Hassan, who died tragically in a motorway accident whilst returning from representing FURD in the Mondiali Antirazzisti (Anti-Racist World Cup) in Bologna, have organised a football tournament in honour of their lost friend. The Remember Ahmed event will be held at the Sheffield United Academy, starting at 11am, and will be attended by Blades first team players and the family of Ahmed Hassan.

Our exhibitions about pioneering black footballers are touring the country with locations including Kent Youth Service, Enfield Homes, Sheffield College and schools in Kent, Lancashire and Sheffield.

See previous news items for details of our other Action Week activities - the 'Kick It Out Dream Manager' competition with Brian Deane, and 'Wharton, Walter, Wayne and the World Cup'.
