A team of young people from Sheffield travel to Ireland this weekend to represent Football Unites in the 10th Annual Inter-cultural Soccer Festival.
The festival, organised by FARE partners Sports Against Racism Ireland (SARI), is on September 9th and 10th at the Garda and Camogie Sports Ground in Phoenix Park, Dublin. 48 teams from all over the world will battle it out over the two-day event for the SARI Cup. Players from Somalia, Poland, South Africa, Romania, Mongolia, UK, Italy and Brazil are joined by a host of homegrown teams from across the country for two days of top class sporting entertainment. Sunday will see the inaugural Woman’s Soccer Tournament showcasing some of the countries best female footballing talent.
SARI Director, Frank Buckley said,
“It’s fantastic that there’s such a broad range of teams involved in our 10th anniversary festival. This year will be the liveliest Soccerfest yet and with a great programme of entertainment all weekend a brilliant family day out”
And the action isn’t just on the pitches. There’s music, dancing and entertainment for all the family including:
- A spectacular visual display of Chinese kites
- World music from The Children of Soweto
- International dance from the Punjab
- Brazilian Capoeira performances and workshops
- Kids jamboree and face painting
- Drumming from Sound and Rhythm and Na Fomboraigh and much, much more….
SARI Chair, Perry Ogden said,
“For the last 10 years SARI has been at the fore front of cultural integration and social inclusion through sport. Even though our resources have been limited, the impact and strength of the message is a credit to all those who continue to support us. The annual soccer fest is a great opportunity for everyone to celebrate the new multi-cultural Ireland and I look forward to expanding our impact and reach in the next 10 years. ”
Entry is FREE. Matches commence at 10.a.m. Saturday 9th and 11a.m. Sunday 10th September.
