Census Pinpoints UK´s Population

The 2001 census data has now been released to the general public, dispelling many myths about the UK´s ethnic minority population. The figures, as predicted, show that just 9% of the UK´s 59 million population consider themselves to be non-white. The figure is up slightly from the 1991 census due to the inclusion of a "mixed race" option on the 2001 census form.

The largest Non-White group are of Indian origin (2%), followed by Pakistani (1.4%) and Caribbean (1.1%). However, this is still smaller than White-Other (E.g. European, American, Australian, etc.) at 2.6% and White-Irish at 1.2%.

Browse the figures yourself at the government´s National Statistics Online or at the BBC´s Census microsite.
