Great news for FURDīs educational work

The FURD Educational Trust has been selected by the Community Fund, one of the National Lottery distributors, to receive a development grant of Ģ142, 755 over 3 years. The grant will support the resource library, interactive website development and administration. The long term aims are to improve literacy amongst young people, particularly refugees and asylum seekers, and to reduce racist attacks and discrimination.

Project Co-ordinator Howard Holmes said: "The Lottery grant is fantastic news. It helps secure the future of the educational work of the project with the establishment of the FURD Interactive Learning Resource Centre. This will harness the power of the internet to provide young people, teachers and youth workers with the tools to fight racial prejudice and discrimination, using football as a gateway to learning."

The Chair of the Regional Awards Committee, Elaine Appelbee said: "This is an imaginative project, which achieves many aims including helping young people challenge and overcome racist behaviour".
